How The Passion Movie Might Be Good Politically

From what I've heard about the Passion of The Christ movie, the suffering and death of Jesus is extremely intense. He is willing to suffer such horrendous treatment and death without resistance, with a larger heavenly purpose in view.

When it comes to the Gospel and how it's preached in church, by now His suffering has become something very "normal" and domesticated. The typical application of Gospel teaching is one of Jesus' example to guide our behavior; but since his suffering is fairly domesticated and palatable, the example leads to more conservative views and behavior.

My little thesis for this entry is that the intensity of Jesus' suffering as portrayed in the film may break some of this normal domesticated outcome. A person might have a real awakening and see Jesus' example as something above and beyond typical conservative hopes and outcomes.
