I've been thinking about what effect it could have on the electoral process if John Kerry gave a warning about election irregularities.
He could affirm how important fair elections are for the sake of a democracy and highlight our standards, etc. Then he could warn that he will prosecute voter intimidation, theft of absentee ballots, and other corrupt practices. Put it out there for the thugs to consider before they do something foolish.
One of my big criticisms of Bush is that he is simply not civic-minded. He turns a blind eye to the corruption of our democratic traditions. He makes no attempt to be president of the whole country.
