I grew up hearing about Hitler and how we should never forget. And it seems like a part of that was that we should always be vigilant. But if fascists come along again and the same kind of abuses are part of their agenda, do we expect them to come right out and tell us? Vigilance means recognizing the signs and thinking about it in a responsible way.
It looks to me like a lot of people in this country are quite willing to give up the freedom we've had, cherished, and that many have died for. I'm thinking of that poor woman who lost her son in Iraq, who was arrested and carted off. And that's just the most recent example. George Bush said in the 2000 campaign, "There should be limits to freedom." And ever since he's shown that he meant it.
